If you’re into off-roading, a lift kit is one of the smartest upgrades you can make. It gives your vehicle more clearance, lets you fit larger tires, and helps avoid damage from rocks and debris. Whether you’re crawling through rocky trails or cruising down forest roads, the right lift kit makes a noticeable difference.

That said, not all kits are created equal. Here’s a breakdown of what to look for, depending on your driving style and vehicle type.

Budget-Friendly Options

If you’re just starting out or want a lift without spending thousands, there are plenty of budget kits that do the job. These kits usually provide between 2 and 4 inches of lift and come with basic components like coil spacers or blocks.

They’re a good entry point and often simple enough to install in a home garage. Just be aware that the ride quality and durability might not match more premium systems.

Mid-Range Kits for Frequent Off-Roaders

For drivers who hit the trails more often, a mid-range suspension kit is worth considering. These typically include upgraded shocks, springs, and control arms, offering better performance and comfort on rough terrain. The ride is smoother, and the parts are built to last longer under stress.

These kits usually offer 3 to 6 inches of lift, making them a good choice for folks who want real off-road capability without going full race truck.

Heavy-Duty Systems for Trail Abuse

If you’re tackling serious terrain—think deep ruts, big rocks, and steep climbs—you’ll need something built for abuse. Heavy-duty kits come with reinforced components, high-performance shocks, and sometimes extended steering or brake lines.

They’re more involved to install and cost more, but the payoff is in durability and performance. These setups are ideal for rock crawlers, mudders, or anyone who pushes their rig to the limit.

Comfort-Oriented Suspension Kits

Not everyone is looking for maximum lift. If your style is more long-distance travel or overlanding, comfort matters. Some kits are tuned specifically for vehicles carrying extra weight from gear, roof racks, or bumpers. These offer a modest lift, usually around 2 to 3 inches, but prioritize ride quality and handling under load. Perfect for those who want to explore remote areas without sacrificing comfort.

Do-It-All Systems

There are also kits that try to balance everything: daily drivability, trail performance, and appearance. These are a solid choice for people who want to take their vehicle off-road on the weekends but still use it for commuting during the week.

Expect decent lift, better-than-stock ride quality, and improved articulation without going overboard.

Final Thoughts

Choosing the right lift kit depends on how and where you drive. Some setups are great for daily use and light trails, while others are built for crawling over boulders. Think about your driving habits, how much gear you carry, and how much work you’re willing to put into installation and maintenance.

Once you figure that out, you’ll have a better sense of which kind of kit fits your build.

A lift kit is a modification that elevates a truck’s body and suspension, resulting in increased ground clearance and a more aggressive stance. Truck owners choose to install lift kits for a variety of reasons, ranging from practical off-road benefits to aesthetic enhancements. However, before making this modification, it’s important to weigh the advantages and disadvantages. Let’s take a closer look at each side to help you make the best choice for your truck.

Elevated Adventures: The Advantages of Lifting Your Truck

One of the primary reasons truck enthusiasts opt for lift kits is the significant improvement in off-road capabilities. The increased ground clearance allows drivers to tackle rough terrain, rocks, and obstacles that would be otherwise impossible with a stock truck.

In addition, the ability to fit larger tires further enhances traction and control in challenging conditions, making a lifted truck a formidable off-road machine.

Beyond the practical benefits, a lifted truck projects a commanding presence on the road. The elevated stance not only turns heads but also improves visibility for the driver, enhancing overall safety. Lifting your truck also opens up a world of customization options. From choosing specific lift heights to selecting unique wheel and tire combinations, you can create a personalized truck that reflects your individual style and preferences.

The Flip Side: Considerations Before Lifting Your Truck

While the advantages of lift kits are enticing, it’s crucial to consider the potential drawbacks. One of the most significant concerns is the impact on handling and stability. Lifting a truck raises its center of gravity, which can make it more prone to body roll and less stable, especially during cornering and sudden maneuvers. Drivers may need to adjust their driving style and be extra cautious when operating a lifted truck.

Another factor to consider is the effect on fuel economy. The increased ride height and larger tires often lead to greater aerodynamic drag and rolling resistance, which can negatively impact fuel efficiency. Also, the added stress on the suspension and drivetrain components may result in accelerated wear and tear, potentially leading to increased maintenance costs down the line.

Before lifting your truck, it’s essential to research the legalities and regulations in your area. Some jurisdictions have specific restrictions on lift heights and tire sizes, and non-compliance can result in fines or even vehicle impoundment.

Choosing the Right Lift: Suspension vs. Body Lift Kits

There are two main types of lift kits: suspension lift kits and body lift kits. Suspension lift kits are more comprehensive, involving modifications to the truck’s suspension components to achieve the desired lift. They generally offer superior off-road performance and are favored by serious off-road enthusiasts. Body lift kits, on the other hand, simply raise the truck’s body from the frame using spacers. They are less expensive and easier to install but offer limited off-road benefits.

Making an Informed Decision: Weighing the Pros and Cons

Ultimately, the decision of whether or not to install a lift kit on your truck depends on your individual needs and priorities. If you frequently venture off-road or desire a more personalized and aggressive look, a lift kit might be a worthwhile investment.

However, it’s important to be aware of the potential drawbacks, such as the impact on handling, fuel economy, and legalities. Thoroughly research your options, choose a reputable installer, and prioritize safety to ensure a satisfying and enjoyable lifted truck experience.

If you’re looking to improve both the performance and appearance of your truck, lift and leveling kits are a go-to option for truck enthusiasts. These suspension customizations not only give your vehicle a more aggressive look, but they also provide better ground clearance and off-road capabilities. But with so many options available on the market, how do you choose the right suspension upgrade for your vehicle? There are a few things to think about that should make your decision a little easier.

Intended Usage and Terrain Requirements

One important factor to consider is the intended use of your truck. If you frequently venture off-road or tackle rough terrains, a suspension lift kit with heavy-duty components may be suitable for your needs. On the other hand, if you mainly use your truck for daily commuting or light towing, a leveling kit that maintains the factory ride quality might be more appropriate. Regardless of which you choose, it’s important to select high-quality lift and leveling kits that are designed specifically for your make and model of truck. Pre-built kits ensure compatibility with existing suspension components while providing reliable performance.

Budgetary Factors

Another key consideration when selecting a suspension upgrade is your budget. Lift kits tend to be more expensive than leveling kits due to their complexity and additional components required. While lift kits offer greater flexibility in terms of height options, leveling kits provide a cost-effective solution for those seeking minor adjustments in ride height without compromising daily drivability. It’s important to set a realistic budget that aligns with your needs and priorities before making any purchasing decisions.

Installation and Future Maintenance

Lastly, don’t forget about installation requirements and future maintenance when deciding on a suspension upgrade for your truck. Lift kits generally involve more intricate installation processes that often require professional expertise or specialized equipment. In contrast, leveling kits can sometimes be easily installed by yourself at home using basic tools. Consider seeking advice from experienced truck owners, forums, or consulting with reputable specialist shops when making your decision. They can provide valuable insights based on their experiences with different brands and models and help you make the best choice for your needs.

Investing in a well-suited lift or leveling kit will not only enhance the look of your truck but also improve its overall performance both on and off-road. Take some time to research various options and make an informed decision that caters to your specific needs as a truck owner.

Lift kits and leveling kits — the secret to a great-looking ride that separates you from the crowd without spending a huge amount of money. But are you aware that lift kits and leveling kits are not really synonymous with each other? Before you start spending hard-earned cash, you need to learn the difference. In this article, we will be comparing lift kits vs. leveling kits: Which is best for you?

The Similarities Between the Lift Kit and the Leveling Kit

Both leveling and lift kits are meant to move the body of your vehicle further away from the axles. They both have the capacity to lift the vehicle body around 2 inches. But this is where the similarities stop!

What is a Lift Kit?

A lift kit is made to lift your vehicle. While a leveling kit can only lift the body of your truck by around 2 inches, a lift kit has much more range. The most extreme prepackaged lift kits usually stop at 10 inches, but there are custom packages that can go even higher.

A lift kit is also known as a suspension system. Because of the higher lift, there is much more work that must be done on your shocks, springs, brake lines, driveshafts and arms.

What is a Leveling Kit?

Although a leveling kit does raise the body of your truck slightly, that is not its main job. For the most part, buyers get leveling kits to raise the front of the vehicle to match the back height, increase ground clearance, and provide the opportunity to fit bigger tires on the vehicle.

Because leveling kits have a limit on their lift, they are usually much easier to install and require much less work on the rest of the vehicle to safely use. For the most part, you will probably only need torsion keys or spacers.

Which One Do You Want?

If you are just trying to fit slightly larger tires on your truck or customize your ground clearance for practical purposes, a leveling kit is usually the way to go. You don’t get the versatility of the lift kit, but you do get a lower price and an easier installation.

If you are going for aesthetics, then you should invest in a lift kit. You may have to retain a professional in order to make the fixes you need to make to drive, but this is normal. You can also fit much bigger tires on your vehicle once you incorporate your lift kit into the mix.

Lifting your vehicle has negative implications on your fuel economy, so make note of that.

For many vehicle owners, the decision to lift or lower your truck or car is not one taken lightly. In a process similar to purchasing a vehicle, the individual must base their decision on appearance preference, functionality, and expected performance. So, before you make any hasty decisions, let us tell you why either choice is right for you.

Benefits of Lowering Your Vehicle

As the name suggests, lowering your vehicle’s suspension allows it to sit closer to the ground. There are many perks associated with lowering your vehicle, including various performance and safety advantages. The most prominent benefit includes improved aerodynamics; sitting closer to the ground means less air traveling underneath the vehicle. The refined aerodynamics reduces wind resistance, allowing increased acceleration and maximum speed potential.

Another advantage of lowering your suspension involves improved handling and maneuvering. The reduced height allows for greater stability, responsiveness, and control over speed. Due to the increased downforce, the vehicle’s lean during sharp turns will drastically decline. In addition, the lowered center of gravity will reduce the risk of rollover.

Not only does a lowering kit improve your vehicle’s performance, it is designed to improve your overall driving experience. Many drivers sporting a lowered look agree the shortened vehicle height has notably improved their levels of comfort. This setup requires rigid or shortened springs, which means your vehicle has a lower chance of bottoming out while traveling over bumps or depressions.

If you have a high-performance vehicle, and you are looking to improve its capabilities, then lowering your suspension is most likely the right decision for you. Plus, the lowered look has always been an attention-grabber, so if you prefer paved surfaces over all-terrain trails, and are looking to turn some heads, do not think twice about lowering your ride.

Benefits of Lifting Your Vehicle

If you have ever traveled in a vehicle with a lift kit, you have already seen the ultimate benefit firsthand. The higher you are off the ground, the wider view you will have. This enhanced view will allow you to see everything going on around you, from the car directly in front of you to upcoming obstacles down the road.

In addition to obstacles on the pavement, a lifted truck is favorable for off-roading adventures and maneuvers. Off-road terrains tend to hold natural obstacles such as rocks, logs, pits, or bodies of water. With a higher suspension, any vehicle could better maneuver or overcome these hindrances.

The final benefit of lifting your vehicle comprises of enhanced towing feasibility. Due to your vehicle’s high stature, the risk of your rear suspension failing is lowered due the reinforced shocks and springs, particularly when towing a heavy load.

Everyone loves to be higher than the small cars you speed past on the highway. But if you have a high Jeep, why do you need a lift kit? Before you decide to get a lift kit, we need to talk about what your Jeep is going to be used for. Let’s take a look at what size lift kit you’ll need as well as what your Jeep will be used for.

How to Choose a Lift Kit?

The first step to deciding on the size lift kit you will need is to decide what your vehicle will be used for. For most people, a Jeep is a combination vehicle. It is used for off-road driving, camping, for your daily commute, and maybe a little towing. If you are looking for a suspension lift kit, for this multi-use vehicle, the goal is to find the perfect balance between drivability on the road and off-road suspension. But the suspension is just one part of choose a lift kit. You should also address the vehicle’s wheels and tires as well as the drive train. These three systems work together at all times to provide your Jeep with the best traction possible. To help determine the size lift kit you need ask yourself these three things: what will my Jeep be used for? What size and type of tires would you like? And what are you willing to spend on a lift kit?

Size of Your Jeep Lift Kit

Lift kits come in three different sizes: small, medium, and large. The smaller lift kits will give you just a little more clearance while allowing you to run 31-inch tires. This type of lift kit will consist of coil spacers that are placed under the stock springs to give your Jeep a little more height in front with long shackles in the rear. Another option is to go with blocks in the rear if you have new or strong springs. This kit will give you a 1.5 to 2-inch lift. Medium lifts are the next in size and are the best choice for most “wheelers.” This type of kit offers a good tire clearance while giving you a good handle on the road while driving. The tire size of this kit ranges 32 to 34 inches. These kits often come with new shocks but may require new wheel spaces or longer brake lines. You will get a lift of 2 to 3.5 inches with this kit. A larger lift kit typically means a more aggressive look while having amazing off-road performance. But with this kit, you will be able to maintain a stock on-road ride. Larger lift kits typically come with a bunch of new parts, which calls for a professional installation. This kit will give you 35 or more inch tires. These kits are geared toward the off-road experience more than on-road driving. For more information on having your lift kit professionally installed, call Trick Trucks!

If you have ever ridden around in a truck that is extremely high off the ground, you know the feeling of ultimate power you get from looking down at the cars on the road. Body lift kits are designed to lift your truck or SUV two or three inches higher by putting a high grade nylon spacer between the body and the frame. Suspension lift kits are made to lift trucks as high as the owners will let them. But what are the downsides to putting a lift kit on? Do the kits change the vehicle? Let’s go over the pros and cons of lifting your truck or SUV.

Pros of Body Lift Kits

Lift kits are specially made not to change the quality of how your truck rides. Most lift kits are not too expensive and they are more economical than suspension lifts. Because the shocks are not touched during the lift, new shocks are not required for lift kits. For people who like to go “off road,” lift kits will give your tires more clearance while still retaining the factory suspension geometry and alignment.

Cons of Body Lift Kits

Lift kit installations are more time consuming because of the nature of the job. These kits require the body to be lifted and bolted back into place. A big downside of the lift kit is that the frame is more visible than it was before and gaps can be seen in the fender wells. Unfortunately, due to placement of the body, factory bumpers are not raised with the body. A common complaint with lift kits are the frame visibility. This could be taken care of by gap guards place on the frame. This type of lift does not offer any performance advantages and can hinder the performance because of the new center of gravity.

Pros of Suspension Lift Kits

Although body lift kits can only be moved one to three inches higher, suspension lift kits can go as high as the driver feels comfortable. This lift allows the owner to purchase bigger tires if they desire. This lift also makes the suspension more articulate.

Cons of Suspension Lift Kits

The annoyance factor can no be overlooked here. It can get annoying climbing in and out of a beast of a truck so before choosing a monster truck, try to picture yourself and your family climbing in and out of it. This lift comes with some maintenance. The supporting pieces may need to be replaced every so often so make sure you are prepared for the costs involved. These kits are also more expensive overall because of the customization done to them. It can void some warranties on your truck or SUV and you will not have a ride as smooth as one without a lift or with a body lift.

Body lift kits are good if you do not want your truck or SUV to perform differently. The quality of the drive remains the same when these lifts are involved. If you want a kit that will raise your truck only a few inches without being a problem, this is the kit for you! If you are looking for that monster truck feeling, the suspension lift kits are for you. Your truck can be raised as high as your budget will allow but be prepared for quite a bit of upkeep as well as having a stepladder in your

Most truck owners appreciate the towing and transportation abilities of their trucks, but lift kits are becoming very popular truck accessories to further enhance a vehicle’s capabilities. From desert racing to crawling over rocks, trucks are now showcasing their off-road capabilities. Trucks have always provided transportation to outdoor adventures such as fishing and camping, but now the vehicle itself is creating adventures for owners. What are some of the basics behind truck lift kits?

Lift Kits

Before lift kits became a popular truck accessory, many truck owners would rig together their own truck lift through various types of suspension parts. This didn’t always work, however, and more importantly it wasn’t always safe. A lift kit will help to smooth out bumpy terrains, but it will also help to make room for bigger tires that off road vehicles may need. The custom built lift kits available now means that truck owners have more time for exploring and adventure.

Finding the Right Kit

While lift kits all have the same purpose, you can’t take a one-size-fits all approach for your truck. The different makes of trucks will generally have their very own lifts, which help to improve the performance of your specific truck. When searching for truck accessories like lift kits, here are a few things to keep in mind:

It’s worth paying for brand names

The quality of materials should be top of the line

Know the exact year, make and model of your truck and only buy a kit using that information

A professional not only knows how to help you select the right kit, but they can install it as well

The Importance of Recognized Brands

You might not be able to tell the difference between generic cereal and brand-name cereal, but you will notice a huge difference when it comes to the lift kit for your truck! If you are traveling through rugged terrain, the last thing you want to worry about is your lift kit breaking down on you. Investing in quality truck accessories will give you the piece of mind that you deserve.

Trucks can reliably get you from point A to point B, but with a lift kit, trucks can also take you on some pretty amazing adventures!

Thinking about lifting the suspension on your truck? Here are a few great reasons to do so.

Benefits of Lifting Your Truck’s Suspension

Better Handling on Bad Roads

If you’re lucky, the roads around you are all in good shape, but chances are that many of the roads you drive on every day could stand to be in better shape. A lifted suspension on your truck can take those divots and potholes a lot better than a normal suspension, and this in turn gives your suspension a longer lifespan.

Improved Towing

A truck with a lifted suspension is much better at towing than a truck with a normal or lowered suspension. Not that these trucks can’t tow also, but a truck with a raised suspension can do the job without having to exert as much energy. Note that this doesn’t apply to trucks with extremely raised suspensions.

Better View

The higher up you are, the more you can see on and around the road. The more you can see, the better prepared you are to avoid accidents and hazardous situations on the road.

Off Roading

Off the road, trucks with lifted suspensions can go where other trucks can’t. Obstacles like rocks and ruts will get in the way of trucks with low suspensions, but a truck with a lifted suspension has the freedom to take on more adventurous terrain.

Looking to lift the suspension on your truck? Trick Trucks offers suspension lift kits that will get you the lift on your suspension that you want. Not only does lifting your truck’s suspension make your truck look cool, it also comes with a lot of benefits to your truck.

The first benefit of a higher suspension is more ground clearance. This especially advantageous when you’re doing off-roading, as the truck has more room to clear obstacles or take potholes in stride with the increased space between the ground and the truck’s undercarriage. The shocks will also bear some of the brunt of off-road driving. The higher suspension also gives you a better view off the road, or wherever you’re driving, which lets you see other drivers better and avoid accidents. Finally, a lifted suspension gives your truck more control and weight advantage when towing. This only applies to trucks that are lifted at a mid-range level; highly lifted trucks do not have this towing advantage.
