How To Remove Salt Stains From Your Car

No matter how hard you try to be careful, snow and street salt always end up inside your vehicle, causing salt stains. Since the majority of these elements are being tracked in on the bottom of passengers shoes, floor mats and carpets end up taking the brunt of the abuse.

As the snow and salt dries, drivers are left with stubborn salt stains all over the interior. If left untreated, these stains can cause serious interior damages, and possibly even lead to rust. Thankfully, Trick Trucks has proven solutions to treat salt stains and prevent any physical wear.

White Vinegar and Water

Many store-bought cleaners contain chemicals that are not only harmful to your vehicle, but also to your passengers. That being said, the best homemade remedy for salt stains is white vinegar and water. Start by vacuuming your vehicle’s carpet or shaking out the floor mats to remove any salt chunks or debris. Then, fill a spray bottle with 1/2 water and 1/2 white vinegar.

Next, spray all the areas with salt stains and let the solution sit for up to 30 seconds. Firmly press a towel or sponge on the stains for 15 seconds – repeat this until the stain is completely gone. If the stain does not completely come out, repeat the entire process as many times as necessary.

If possible, leave the windows down or hang your floor mats up to dry to prevent mildew or mold from growing in your vehicle. This will also help remove any residual white vinegar odors.

Carpet Cleaner

Another option for removing salt stains from the interior of your car is using carpet cleaner – foaming carpet cleaners tend to yield the best results.

Spray the solution on the salt stains and use a scrub brush to gently rub the carpet or floor mat. Do not scrub too vigorously as this might lodge the salt further into the interior. Once the cleaner has completely dried, simply vacuum up the dried residue. Not only will this leave your vehicle with a spotless interior, but it will also prevent future stains and leave your car smelling fresh and clean.
