Choosing the right truck bed cover is a smart move to protect your belongings and make your truck more useful. A good cover can keep your cargo safe from bad weather, theft, and damage. It can also improve the way your truck looks and performs. With so many options available, knowing what to look for will help you make the best choice for your needs.

Types of Truck Bed Covers

Hard Covers

Hard covers are made from tough materials like aluminum or fiberglass. These covers are strong and secure, making them great for keeping valuable items safe. They hold up well in bad weather and protect your truck bed from wear and tear. If you need heavy-duty protection, a hard cover is a reliable choice.

Soft Covers

Soft covers are a more affordable and lightweight option. They are usually made from flexible materials like vinyl, which makes them easy to handle and install. Although they don’t offer as much security as hard covers, they work well for everyday use and keeping items out of sight.

Roll-Up Covers

Roll-up covers are handy for people who need quick and easy access to their truck bed. These covers can be rolled back, so you can load or unload items without much effort. They’re also space-saving, making them a practical choice if you often use your truck for different types of cargo.

Folding Covers

Folding covers come in designs that fold up into sections. They let you open part of the truck bed while leaving the rest covered. This flexibility makes them useful for carrying items of different sizes or shapes. Folding covers combine convenience with durability, making them a popular option.

Material and Build Quality

The material of a truck bed cover affects how well it works and how long it lasts. Hard materials like aluminum and fiberglass are great for standing up to bad weather and regular use. Vinyl covers are softer and more affordable, but they might not last as long under tough conditions. Think about what you usually carry in your truck and the weather in your area when choosing a material.

Security Features

If you want to protect your cargo from theft, look for covers with locks or ones that work with your truck’s tailgate lock. Hard covers generally offer better security, but some soft covers also have good locking systems. A secure cover is important if you transport expensive or sensitive items.

Installation and Maintenance

Some covers are easier to install than others. Soft covers and roll-up designs can usually be installed without much trouble, while hard covers might need more tools or professional help. Regular care, like cleaning the cover and checking for damage, will help it last longer and keep working well.

Budget and Pricing

Truck bed covers come in a wide price range. Soft covers are generally cheaper, while hard covers cost more due to their durability and added features. Think about what you’re willing to spend and what features matter most to you. A more expensive cover might be worth it if it lasts longer and meets your needs better.

Final Thoughts

Choosing a truck bed cover doesn’t have to be overwhelming. By thinking about the type, material, security, installation, and cost, you can find one that works for you. A good truck bed cover protects your cargo, adds value to your truck, and makes your life easier. Take the time to find the right one, and you’ll enjoy the benefits for years to come.

Hinged tonneau covers can provide truck bed protection. Having truck bed protection for your new truck is almost as important as having a new truck to protect and customize. In this week’s blog, we’ll take a closer look at the 5 benefits of hinged tonneau covers for trucks. If you’ve got a customized exterior for your truck, you’ll want to be sure it stays flawless. Please read on to learn more!

Here are Some Awesome Benefits of Hinged Tonneau Covers!

1. Easy Access with One Hand: Often, carrying things into your truck means you’ll lack a hand. In order to open the back, you’d need to set something down. Not so much with hinged tonneau covers. In fact, it’s all in the wrist – with one simple motion you can open up the cover and reveal the back of your truck. You won’t have to carry such large loads anymore. Built-in quick release hardware also makes it easier to detach the cover when you don’t need it.
2. Many Options for Paint-Matching: Want a fancy new paint job for your truck? No problem, because paint-matching is a breeze. You’ve got many options to choose from. Besides, this type of cover is the only one you can modify to match with the factory paint job on your vehicle. Ribs, corners, edges, and spoilers can all add aesthetic bonuses to your truck via paint-matched tonneau covers.
3. Ruggedness: Whatever you need to haul, hinged tonneau covers have got your back. With up to 1600 lbs. in hauling capacity, hinged tonneau covers can handle virtually anything you throw at it.
4. Security Against Weather and For Locks: Feel secure against wild weather, and be sure your locks will endure. Rain, sleet, and snow can’t get in, and hinged tonneau covers will give you an extra lock mechanism as well.
5. Overall Versatility: Consider the overall versatility of hinged tonneau covers. They can be combined with the access of a roll-up tonneau cover. There are many manufacturers who can help you achieve this combination if you need it. Not only are they affordable, but they don’t need to be paint-matched either. Although these tonneau covers are constructed from lighter materials, they still offer heavyweight protection. You can still have the key elements of security, style, and convenience with this combination feature.

Truck bed covers are a great way to secure the load in your truck bed. With such a huge variety of different types, styles and manufacturers of truck bed covers, how do you determine which one is right for your truck? Here’s a quick rundown of everything you need to know.

Soft Tonneau Covers

Soft tonneau covers are the most inexpensive type of truck bed cover. They’re also an effective option for protecting your truck bed and cargo from weather or keeping your cargo out of sight. Soft tonneau covers use a frame that clamps to your truck without the need for drilling. A soft vinyl cover then snaps to the framework.

Roll-Up Covers

Roll-up covers operate similarly to soft tonneau covers and require no drilling to clamp to the truck bed. A roll-up cover will protect your truck bed from the elements, and is more “all-season” than tonneau covers. They can be attached even in extreme cold.

Soft and Hard Folding Covers

Folding covers are a very accessible truck bed cover option due to their ease of use. Soft folding covers enable easy truck bed access and cover remodel. Hard folding covers also provide the same ease of use, but add an extra layer of security when the vehicle is equipped with a locking tailgate. Soft and hard folding covers are a particularly great option for truck owners who routinely carry taller cargo.

Retractable Covers

Retractable covers have the ability to retract into a canister at the front of the truck bed. This unique feature provides locking security and the convenience of a cover that doesn’t need to be removed for truck bed access. Retractable covers can also be secured partially open, a feature not often found in other types of truck bed covers.

High Impact Plastic Lids

High impact plastic lid covers are popular with truck owners that want an easy to remove, locking flat cover for their cargo. These covers feature clean lines, a black textured finish and provide a great deal of durability and security. These covers typically weigh less than 60 lbs and can be removed in minutes, providing quick access to cargo.

Fiberglass Lids

Painted fiberglass lids are a stylish options for truck owners who want a cover that matches the look and feel of their truck. Fiberglass lids are reinforced for strength and durability. Some models feature quick release hardware for easy lid removal, while other models are removable by releasing mounting clamps.

With the weather constantly bouncing around from the low 30s to the high 60s, we never know what winter weather has in store for us. So why not take these measures to protect your vehicle while you can?

Regular Washes

Keeping your car clean isn’t just for hot summer days. The salt, sand, and chemicals that can cover the roads in the winter make washing your vehicle is even more important. Not washing away these chemicals can not only make your vehicle look bad, it can actually eat away at the paint. But does this mean you should wash it every time you go to the grocery store? According to J.D. Power, you should wash your vehicle when it starts to look dirty from two car lengths away. When you start to notice how dirty it looks, take your vehicle to the nearest hose or self-serve washing station as soon as possible for its regular cleaning.

Replacing Wiper Blades

Quality wiper blades can serve two purposes in the winter weather. Wipers can help clean your windshields from chemicals and the elements. These chemicals can actually cause permanent damage including etches and cracks in the glass if they are left in place over time. Wipers can also keep your windshield clear so you can drive. Have you ever noticed how the sun seems to reflect off the snow, making everything seem brighter and cleaner? This is because the water in the snow reflects the ultraviolet rays. These rays can actually damage the rubber of wiper blades, causing cracks in the rubber. If you notice these cracks, replace the blades immediately if you notice streaks or scraping noises.

Covering Truck Beds

Trucks are great when you have to navigate through winter weather. But when a truck is constantly parked outdoors with an open bed, it can fill up quickly with snow and freezing rain. To prevent the elements from rusting your open truck bed, try using a cover. Truck bed covers come in all types and sizes that are custom for your truck’s make and model. If you are used to hauling loads, choose a soft removable cover that easily rolls up and out of the way. Or choose an automatic metal cover to hold the items in your bed securely while protecting your truck from the elements. There are many different options for your truck, so why not protect it from winter weather?

It’s snowing, windy, and your best friend just asked you to help him move because he knows you have a truck.  You are immediately glad that you bought a new truck bed cover so items do not fly out or get ruined in the process. Your friend asks, “Do we even need a cover?” Naturally, you then have to give him all of the reasons why using a cover in the winter is necessary.

Covers are needed for hauling furniture and loose odds and ends.

Truck bed covers will hold your friend’s dresser in place and prevent his socks from flying out into the snowy abyss. Since your friend is moving to an urban setting, he needs to transport his personal items securely and safely.  Truck bed covers will do the job, keeping belongings out of sight and making it time consuming for nosy thieves to reach in and grab something. Accessories such as locks for the cover are also a plus when leaving items in the truck for long periods of time.

There are multiple types of truck bed covers.

There are various forms of Tonneau covers, providing easy access to the truck bed. Various styles include a tri-fold, a roll up cover, a flip cover, and a regular folding cover. If you are going with a Tonneau cover, pick the one easiest for you to use and the most capable of covering the goods in the truck bed. Some covers are made of aluminum which are durable and can withstand storms. Other truck bed covers made of canvas allow for more storage space in the bed. This type of cover would be best used when helping your friend move because it allows for maximum space and oddly shaped items. Another type of truck bed cover is a camper shell, which is usually aluminum or fiberglass. This type of shell is ideal for camping as it can be tall and has a door and windows for easy exit and entry.

Weather affects your truck bed.

Not only does a truck bed cover protect the bed from snow, wind, and hail, it also saves it from heat in the summer months. Sunlight can be damaging to items in the truck. A truck bed cover also drastically reduces the drag of the truck, enabling the truck to get more mileage per gallon of gas. Driving to your friend’s new house will cost less and keep his furniture dry.

If you need more information about truck bed covers or are looking to buy one this winter, please contact Trick Trucks today by calling 1-866-60 TRICK or click here! We also invite you to explore our many  Exterior Truck Accessories while you’re here.
