Pulling a trailer behind your truck is nearly impossible without a sturdy trailer hitch. If you’re looking for some new trailer hitches before your next haul, then here are some possibilities for you to consider. Which one strikes your fancy first? That’s an important question to answer.

Rear Receiver

Most of the time, when you get a new trailer hitch, it will be one of these. You can use these trailer hitches to pull a trailer behind your pickup truck. You can also use them to help organize bike racks, foldable steps, and extra cargo that you are hauling. The receiver has a square-shaped tube that accepts many different plug-ins. These trailer hitches got right onto the back bumper of your vehicle.

Front Mount

The main difference between the rear receiver and the front mount is visible in the name. Take a minute and think about it: front mount means you can attach it to the front bumper instead of the back. Anything you can connect to a front mount trailer hitch, however, can’t interfere with your view of the road. That said, you can install a winch, a snowplow, or a spare tire, among other things. Front mount trailer hitches are different sizes than their rear mount counterparts and as such have different rating systems that you will need to consider when looking to buy one.

Fifth Wheel

Sometimes, you need more hauling capacity. That’s where fifth wheel trailers hitches come into the picture. When you need one, mount it in the bed of your truck; alternatively, you can connect it to a spot right before the rear axle meets the rest of the undercarriage. The coupling is a component of the hitch itself and not the trailer that you are looking to pull behind you. If you know you are going over rough terrain, then fifth wheel trailer hitches are the right choice to make. Their improved shock protection will help shield your cargo from the jolts of potholes or uneven dirt roads.

Gooseneck

You can also choose a gooseneck trailer hitch. The first thing you should know about them is that they’re similar to fifth wheel hitches. However, they aren’t as bulky or obtrusive. Plus, you can use all of your truck bed while towing something. There’s something to be said about that ability.

Do you plan on hauling massive loads of cargo with you this fall?

Do you plan on hauling massive loads of cargo with you this fall? Whether you’re taking the family on a camping trip and bringing a trailer with you, or you want to go fishing and need a boat, your truck can surprise you with how much it can pull behind it. Consider these trailer hitch accessories for your truck or SUV the next time you hit the road.

Hitch Covers

How often do you take care of your truck’s receiver? A hitch cover can keep it clean and fabulous whenever you’re not actively using it. Hitch covers often come in many different styles, and also show off something about you, namely your favorite sports team because that squad’s logo can be emblazoned on the cover. Hitch covers take full advantage of both form and function.

Hitch Lights

Wherever you go this fall, you should know that sundown comes much earlier than it did over the summer. If what you’re hauling is a trailer and you need to see during the dark hours between sunset and sunrise, consider adding some hitch lights. These LED lights will blaze you a path and help you see better, on the road and off of it, too. So if you want to challenge the rough and rugged off-road paths around you, go right ahead!

Hitch Steps

Sometimes, you might need an extra boost. If you have roof racks or need to reach deeper into your truck bed, a hitch step might come in handy. With a hitch step installed, a receiver can quickly turn into a ladder. Make loading up your truck or SUV easier on yourself with this type of trailer hitch accessory. Best of all, you can find them in all shapes and sizes, especially if you need a foot pad to keep from slipping off in wet and dreary weather.

Hitch Protectors

Lastly, your hitch step could do with some more protection. Given how often you’re likely to be climbing up and down while moving something bulky, you don’t want to dent or damage your bumper. After all, the bumper will protect the back end of your vehicle. Sometimes, trailer hitch accessories can function as more than one type of item; hitch protectors also serve as hitch steps, but with an extra layer of defense for you and your truck.

A trailer hitch is a device attached to the chassis of a vehicle for towing. It can take the form of a tow ball to allow swiveling and articulation of a trailer, or a tow pin, or a tow hook with a trailer loop, often used for large or agricultural vehicles where slack in the pivot pin allows similar movements. Selecting the right trailer hitch for your vehicle can actually be one of the easiest steps in getting ready to tow. If you already know the weight capacities of your vehicle and you know the type of trailer you are planning to tow, then there are only a few simple steps to finding the right hitch.

The Right Trailer Hitch for You

Bumper Mounted Hitches: A bumper hitch allows for adjustment and flexibility in towing application, it mounts onto your vehicle’s bumper, rather than the frame, and provides a receiver tube for a ball mount, cargo carrier, bike rack or other hitch-mounted accessories.

Front Mounted Hitches: Front mount trailer hitches allow you to use the front end of your vehicle for various towing purposes. They can be used for mounting a winch, snow plow or other accessories

Gooseneck Hitch: A gooseneck hitch is designed to handle the heavy tow load that accompanies a gooseneck trailer. Trailers of this sort typically come in the form of an RV or livestock trailer but can also include other large trailers such as flatbeds.

5th Wheel Hitch: A fifth wheel hitch is installed in the bed of a pickup. The weight of the trailer will press down between the cab of the truck and the rear axle.

Receiver Hitches: Receiver hitches are categorized in classes 1 through 5, according to the maximum amount of weight they can tow.

Knowing the Essentials

Towing a trailer can be a trial. Seemingly minor details, like adding a couple of hundred pounds to the rear, can make profound changes in the rig’s stability. But by following a few simple guidelines, you can stay on track, towing with the utmost ease and safety. All hitches are not created equal. The weight that your vehicle can tow is specified by the manufacturer and listed in the owner’s manual. Find two numbers: the gross trailer weight (GTW) and the maximum tongue weight. With those figures in hand, you can then pick the appropriate hitch.

Consider this a follow up to a post we had from a few weeks ago. Whatever the weather is like, some basic equipment is always good to have. Even if this year’s winter is on track to be the driest in recent memory with almost no snow, it is still good to be prepared. Rain might come more often than snow, but you’ll still want to be ready. Let Trick Trucks & Cars help you get ready with these great services, and some handy tips:

Install a Snowplow on Your Truck

Although it may seem intimidating to install, a snowplow is a staple piece of equipment for winter time. You often see plows mounted on regular pickup trucks, not to mention plow trucks designed for this exact purpose. It is one of the basic items we offer, though. Why wait for your street or neighborhood to be plowed out when the snows come? You can do it yourself and not have to rely on the county or the city. After all, they may not prioritize the area in which you live, and you’ve got places to go, things to do, and people to help.

Check Your Tires on Your Truck

Tires are important parts of your vehicles already, but in winter and in summer they become lifesavers. At the gas station, look for an air pump station, preferably for free. If you haven’t already, you should double check the proper inflation level for your tires, as cold air can deflate them faster. Do note that in warmer weather your tires don’t need to be as heavily inflated. In any sort of conditions, make sure they aren’t worn or damaged in any way. But if you need tires, come to us. We’ve got tire and wheel packages that’ll be sure to fit your needs.

Consider Trailer Hitches on Your Truck

As spring and summer approach, you’ll want to spend more leisure time outside, somewhere in the great outdoors. You could be roaming America’s highways on a cross country road trip, RV in tow. Or you might be out on the water to catch some fresh fish. Either way, consider a trailer hitch. Whichever your pleasure, we have a wide variety of trailer hitches to choose from.

Keep On Trucking with Trick Trucks

Call Trick Trucks today for your best trailer hitch options!

Trailer hitches can be a life saver for work and everyday life. People who don’t want to get their truck beds scratched, dented, or dirty can hook up a trailer and pull their cargo without worrying about cleaning up the bed afterwards. People with cars are able to pull more things when their trunks are full and they don’t have to worry about cramming their car with stuff. But how do you know what trailer hitches to hook up to your car or truck? Can a subcompact car use a trailer hitch? Well, we have the answers!

Class I

This class of hitches is made for subcompact and sedans, SUVs, vans, light weight and heavy duty trucks. The maximum gross trailer weight they can pull is 2,000 pounds and the maximum tongue weight (downward force on the hitch ball) is 200 pounds. They can pull items such as a jet ski, motorcycle, bike racks, and a cargo box.

Class II

These hitches can pull a maximum of 3,500 pounds with a maximum tongue weight of 350 pounds. They are made for all vehicles except subcompact cars and can tow small trailers, small boats, and 2 utility vehicles as well as the items from the Class I hitch.

Class III

Class III hitches can pull up to 6,000 pounds and has a tongue weight of 600 pounds. These hitches are for bigger vehicles such as SUVs, vans, light duty, and heavy duty trucks. They can tow everything from the previous categories as well as medium trailers and fishing boats.

Class IV

These hitches can pull a gross trailer weight of 12,000 pounds and have a maximum tongue weight between 1,000 to 1,200 pounds. These hitches can be used with SUVs, vans, light and heavy duty trucks. They can tow everything from a small cargo box to midsize campers and boats.

Class V

Class V hitches can pull a gross trailer weight of 18,000 pounds with a tongue weight of 1,800 pounds. This hitch is made for heavy duty trucks and can tow everything listed as well as large RVs and large trailers. This type of hitch was used when a Toyota Tundra moved the Spaceship Endeavor from the Los Angeles airport to the California Science Center.

The type of trailer hitch you might use will depend on your car as well as your car’s gross combination weight rating, which is the maximum weight a loaded vehicle and trailer can hold. To talk to someone about your best towing options, call Trick Trucks!

While your truck bed is great for hauling everything from rocks to antique furniture, and everything in between, there are just some things that are too big for your truck. For these items, you may need to utilize a trailer. This means you will need a trailer hitch.

Trailer hitches are given a “class” rating that defines their towing capacity and receiver opening size, with classes range from class I to class V. We have already explained the differences between each type of trailer hitch class. But sometimes, even a class V trailer hitch won’t do. If it is too large for a Class V hitch, a Gooseneck Hitch might be your best option.

Unlike a standard ball hitch, a gooseneck trailer hitch is mounted inside the truck bed, similar to a 5th wheel trailer hitch. The difference between the two types of hitches is that a gooseneck trailer hitch uses a ball and coupler, while a 5th wheel trailer hitch uses a kingpin and fifth wheel hitch.

Benefits of Gooseneck Trailer Hitches

Gooseneck hitches are typically used for horse and livestock trailers and other larger items.

Gooseneck hitches are rated for weights up to 30 thousand pounds.

Towing heavy loads without the proper equipment can really damage your truck.

Gooseneck hitches are ideal for any truck owner looking to add more versatility and towing capacity to their pickup.

To find out if a Gooseneck Trailer Hitch is tough enough to handle your towing needs, contact Trick Trucks to talk to one of our experts. Trick Trucks carries an extensive line of towing products, so we know what we are talking about. We sell and install trailer hitches for every make and model vehicle, from cars and small trucks, to large pickups capable of towing boats, campers, RVs, horse trailers and heavy commercial equipment.

If you are planning on hauling a large load with your pickup, having a 5th wheel trailer hitch installed on your truck is the only way to go!

If you are interested in having a Gooseneck Trailer Hitch installed in your vehicle, contact Trick Trucks today. We are here for you. All products can be purchased in our showroom and can be professionally installed at all of our twelve locations.

Trailer hitches are given a “class” rating that defines their towing capacity and receiver opening size, with classes range from class I to class V. We have already explained the differences between each type of trailer hitch class. Now, we are going to focus our attention on one hitch in particular – the class 5 hitch.

The Benefits of a Class V Trailer Hitch include:

A class 5 trailer hitch is the type of hitch is a weight-distributing hitch used for extra heavy-duty towing.

A class 5 trailer hitch can handle a gross trailer weight (GTW) of over 10,000 lbs.

A class 5 trailer hitch can handle a maximum tongue weight over 1,200 lbs.

A class 5 trailer hitch is ideal for towing extra heavy loads, including: car trailers, horse trailers, large boats, and campers.

A class 5 trailer hitch can be installed on most and full-size pickup trucks.

A class 5 hitch is the heaviest class-designated hitch on the market. Typically installed on full-size trucks, these hitches are best suited for towing large trailers, campers, and boats. For anything heavier, you should consider a 5th wheel or gooseneck hitch.

Trailer hitches are given a “class” rating that defines their towing capacity and receiver opening size, with classes range from class I to class V. We have already explained the differences between each type of trailer hitch class. Now, we are going to focus our attention on one hitch in particular – the class 3 hitch.

The Benefits of a Class III Trailer Hitch include:

A class 3 heavy-duty hitch is the type of hitch considered for general towing.

A class III hitch can handle a gross trailer weight (GTW) of up to 5,000 lbs.

A class III towing hitch can handle a maximum tongue weight of 500 lbs.

Class III hitches are ideal for towing midsize campers and boats.

A class III heavy-duty hitch can be installed on most midsize and full-size pickup trucks, vans and SUVs.

A class 3 hitch is the third lightest hitch on the market. Typically installed on vans, SUVs, and trucks, these hitches are best suited for towing midsize trailers, campers, and boats. For more heavy duty towing, you should consider a class 4 trailer hitch or higher.

To find out if a Class 3 Trailer Hitch is tough enough to handle your towing needs, contact Trick Trucks to talk to one of our experts. Trick Trucks carries an extensive line of towing products, so we know what we are talking about.

Trailer hitches are given a “class” rating that defines their towing capacity and receiver opening size, with classes range from class I to class V. We have already explained the differences between each type of trailer hitch class. Now, we are going to focus our attention on one hitch in particular – the class 2 hitch.

The Benefits of a Class II Trailer Hitch include:

• A class II hitch can handle a gross trailer weight (GTW) of up to 3,500 lbs.

• A class II towing hitch can handle a maximum tongue weight of 300 lbs.

• Class II hitches are ideal for towing small boats trailers, snowmobile trailers, motorcycle trailers, and campers.

A class 2 hitch is the second lightest hitch on the market. Typically installed on full-size vans, full-size pickups, and SUVs, these hitches are best suited for towing small recreational vehicles and campers. For more heavy duty towing, you should consider a class 3 trailer hitch or higher.
