How To Stay Safe Driving In The Snow

We know it’s no secret. Maryland has some of the most unpredictable weather in the United States. One day it can be hot and sunny, the next could be rain with a flurry snowstorm. Some people get overly confident behind the driver’s seat in less than perfect conditions, and it’s better to play it on the safe side instead when it comes to snow.

Here’s a few tips on how to stay safe driving in the snow.

Stay Safe Driving In The Snow

A Smooth Drive

Probably one of the most important aspects when driving in inclement weather is to keep your car or truck steady. Sudden movements or jerks in the steering wheel, even the slightest, could possibly have a big effect if you’re driving on slippery roads. A good rule is to drive at a gentle and gradual pace. There is no rushing when unpredictable weather is thrown into your drive.

Look Out

It takes extra concentration when it comes to traveling in undesirable weather.  The best thing you can do when you come upon unsteady road conditions is to look far ahead. Look out for other vehicles that may be close by and give yourself ample room just in case you may slip or skid. This can help avoid any encounters or possibly colliding with another vehicle.

Stability

If you have to be out driving while there is bad weather, it is likely you will experience a slide of skid of your tires. It can be a bit of a jarring and uneasy feeling for your vehicle to become out of control. Instead of panicking, trying to gain stability is key here. Ease off of the gas and be sure to not stab at the brakes for your best chance at regaining control.
